Loma Prieta - Life/Less

Loma Prieta was nice enough to sell test presses of their new LP, Life/Less, and the Internet took this for granted and leaked the shit out of it. That'll teach you for being nice. Not only is this Loma's most mature, intelligent release, but it's one of the best albums I've heard this year. I will be buying this ASAP.

This is a vinyl rip of the test press.

Verse En Coma - Rialto 10"

Location - Virginia, US
Genre - Emo, Rock, Indie

Hard to classify this band, all you really have to know is that you are going to love it. This is one of the most intelligent combination of musicians with members of pg.99, city of caterpillar, haram, darkest hour, etc. This album is genius and a must have for anyone into the aforementioned bands.

Good Metalcore reminiscent of Botch or Converge

Diamond Watch Wrists - Ice Capped At Both Ends

Two piece with Zach Hill of Hella fame and Scott Herren who also goes by Prefuse 73.
There are some really cool tracks on here. Zach Hill can play drums for just about anything.

su19b - discography

Location - Japan
Genre - Powerviolence, Doom, Grind

Not much to be said about these guys just very doomy japanese pv.

Mind Eraser

Location - Boston, MA
Genre - Hardcore, Powerviolence, Powerviolence

Apocalyptic hardcore at it's finest. This is not all of their releases, just three LPs. If you are into sludge definitely at least get "Conscious Unconscious," it mixes powerviolence and doom quite perfectly. The others are more fast paced but just as sludgy only shorter songs. For fans of Ceremony and Crossed Out.

Heathens - s/t

Location - Richmond, VA
Genre - Hardcore

Really heavy hardcore.

Vile Intent - Demo 2008

Location - Canada
Genre - Powerviolence, Hardcore

Great pv outfit from Canada. I saw them at the Nowarehouse in Baltimore on Memorial Day of last year. Out of the whole cookout/bash - which hosted bands such as Surroundings, Magrudergrind, Endless Blockade, Maruta, Chainsaw to the Face - Vile Intent's set was one of the best there. Some parts get pretty sludgy and super dooper awesome.

Fighting Shit

Location - Reykjavik, Iceland
Genre - Hardcore, Thrash

Fast, pissed, somewhat melodic hardcore from Iceland. This is one of the two magnificent icelandic hardcore bands I know of - the other being I Adapt. Obviously "Tuned for Thrash" is more fast paced and thrashy than "Bothered"which has more of the melodic elements but still maintains the speed and energy.

The Roots - Things Fall Apart

Download

The Roots played yesterday in D.C. It was supremely awesome.

Project Polaroid - s/t

Location - New York, US (I am guessing)
Genre - Rap

This album is a tad strange as most of the music featuring Kool Keith (Dr. Octagon, Mr. Nagatco, Dr. Doom) is. However, this album is so good. It is not ground breaking nor is it all that original, it is pretty run of the mill as far as Kool Keith's sound goes, but for some reason it was a breath of fresh air for me. I don't know maybe you will be able sense the same thing I did and fill me in on exactly where that refreshing sense stems from. Lastly, this album cover is by far in my top favorites along with Combat Wounded Veteran's "This Is Not an Erect, All-Red Neon Body," Extortion's "Sick," and Self Destruct's "s/t 7."

ps. I don't know why the file name is "t." but it is the album, I upped it myself. If it is not let me know and it will be fixed.

Jazz Liberatorz - Clin D'Oeil

Location - Meaux, France
Genre - Rap, Jazz

Very heavily jazz influenced album. Group is composed of three producers who also use live instruments, which is very respectable in a world dominated by computer based production. Very laid back, most of the people spitting on this album have a really solid flow. This is their first full length. I don't know who actually spits on this record, if it is members of the groups or friends of theirs or what not, if someone knows please help a brotha' out.

Panacea - Corkscrew Gaps EP

Location - DC, US
Genre - Rap, Jazz

Beautiful jazzy hip hop. Lyrics are great, beats are even better. With two of the best producers in the business - Damu the Fudgemonk and K-Murdock - along with lyricist Raw Poetic this magnificent trio is definitely a force to be reckoned with.

Cheer up! - Myspace Rips

Location - Florida, US
Genre - Emo, Post-Hardcore

I've never had any of their releases in my posession but I did these myspace rips yesterday. It is just all the songs on their myspace player. Fun, (relatively) happy sounding two piece. Check them out if you're into Peter & Craig, At the Drive In, or Red Museum.

Le Temps Des Mobylettes - demo

French screamo band with some musical ADD. songs go from pop punk to grind in seconds.

This video of them has a man running around in a green jumpsuit.

Liturgy - Renihilation

Location - New York, US
Genre - Black Metal

One of the best black metal records I have come across. The drummer's stamina is insane! Apparently on their latest tour they have been playing most of this album, I really can not imagine playing this whole album live being a drummer. Members of Behold the Arctopus. Album is Intense.

The Clancy Six / Vincent Price's Orphan Powered Death Machine - split

Location - Lancaster (PA)/ DC / Baltimore (MD), US
Genre - Grind

Both of these bands have my favorite grind sound. They are passionate, heavy, and metal as fuck. The lyrics are fantastic (especially on VP side) but there is also something fresh/original about the music as well. Personal vinyl rip - quality not a great as preferred. Will post other rips of theirs if requested.

Location - California, US
Genre - math rock, noise rock, indie

Rob Crowe (Pinback, Gobin Cock) and Zach Hill (Hella, Bygones) duet. It is beautiful, it is mathy, it is smooth - exactly what you'd expect out of a perfect pairing of these two.

Kan Kick - Beautiful: Opus of Love, Deeper than Flesh

Location - California , US
Genre - Electronic, Beats, Rap

Kan Kick's beats are so layered; he is quite a master of the art. Enjoy this marvelous album.

Free the Robots - s/t EP

Location - California, US
Genre - Electronic, Beats, Jazz

I listen to lots of jazz influenced hip hop which directly leads into jazz influenced beats. This is one of my favorites.

Robinson - The Great City

Location - Ohio, US
Genre - Grind

The most extreme, powerful, apocalyptic, yet beautifully serenading Grind band. 6 was my initial love, 7 became so while posting this actually. Fantastic album, one of my personal favorite grind albums. The vocal production on this album is so unbelievably harsh but is able to sit in the mix very well, love it! The demo is great as well.

Sunday, April 11, 2010

PIg Destroyer - Prowler in the Yard

Location - Virginia, US
Genre - Deathgrind

One of the best albums in the genre. Hyperviolet, Ghost of a Bullet, and Pornographic Memory are by far some of my most favorite grind songs. If you haven't, read the lyrics for this album, they are simply superb! Pig Destroyer - the most poetic of all grind bands! (besides maybe Discordance Axis).

Maths - Descent

New Maths. Get it now.

Edit: Descent is one of the greatest albums of its genre I've ever heard.

Pedro The Lion - Control

Download

Wikipedia is better at explaining than I am :

Pedro the Lion was an indie rock band from Seattle, Washington. Formed by singer-songwriter David Bazan in 1995, he represented the main creative force of the band, backed by a rotation of various collaborating musicians. T. W. Walsh is considered to be the sole official band member besides Bazan. In 2006, Bazan and Walsh split amicably and Pedro the Lion was dissolved as Bazan went solo. Releasing four full-length albums and five EPs over 11 years, the band was known for its first person narrative lyrics with political and religious themes.

This is my favorite Pedro The Lion album

Pyramids

Location - Philly, US
Genre - Emo / Post-Rock

Great post-rock influenced emo band. Have put out more releases than I realized - I have only really ever had their split w/ Violent Breakfast which is marvelous, and two of the lps; however, I am sure the rest is great too. For fans of Envy, Belle Epoque, City of Caterpillar.

Tuesday, April 6, 2010

Nervous Sex - Creep Sea

Location - Philly, US
Genre - Noise, Hardcore, Grind

Creep Sea is such a solid EP, definitely one of my top favorites from the past few years. The noise elements and incorporation make this album much more behemoth than it would otherwise. That is not to down-speak the instrumentation, i'm o' so into it. Great album played decently loud.

Sorry - Imaginary Friend

Location - Massachusetts
Genre - Hardcore / Emo / Post-punk

Although this album came out in 84' I feel like it has a very emo sound to it. It is definitely post-punk influenced with tracks like "Why do I have to look at you?" Mainly this is a really odd hardcore album when hardcore hit it's first experimentation era. Kick ass lp though.

Sinaloa - self titled

Location - Somerville, Massachusetts
Genre - Emo

One of my favorite bands with a very unannounced and quiet release. There really wasn't too much talk about this one; all of a sudden one day they had a new 4 song 12". I just found out about it today and found one link. I guess not too many other people know it is out either. So far it is great. Recorded by them. Still great lyrics and unique.

Extortion / Septic Surge - split

Location - Australia
Genre - Powerviolence / Grind / Doom

One of the better splits I have listened to recently. I am just now listening to Extortion's side (although I figured they would've been first considering they are one of my favorites), however, Septic Surge's side is ace. It is so heavey and just downtempo but still is capable of the fast intensity are the perfect moments. For fans of Crossed Out, Neanderthal

Fuck Buttons - Street Horrrsing

Location - England
Genre - Electronic, Drone, Experimental

If you like beautiful electronic repetitious soundscapes you will love Fuck Buttons. Although my favorite song of theirs is on a later album I decided to post this one because I find the album as a whole more intriguing. There are some pretty serious almost Darkthrone sounding vocals at time, they fit right in. Enjoy.

Fuck On the Beach - Endless Summer

Location - Japan
Genre - Powerviolence

In celebration of the second 81 degree day here in good ol' TN I decided to do some foreshadowing and upload an album in celebration summer itself. Good ol' Japanese Powerviolent Powerhouse Fuck on the Beach with this relentless ear fucking LP. Good shit mane, get into it. Ride on Time is a kick ass doomy track too.

Download

  Awesome Thrash/Punk/Death from Seattle.

Outclassed - 2008 EP

Location - Pittsburgh, Us
Genre - Emo, Math Rock, Hardcore

More mathy emo fo' yo' ass! This is a killer 12" EP from this Pittsburgh powerhouse. I am not sure if they are still together or on hiatus or whatnot but still love them. Possibly for fans of old Fear Before the March of Flames (Art Damage era).

PTTRNS - c-20

Location - Germany
Genre - Emo/Math Rock

Great mathy noise-rocky emo band from Germany. They share members with some other really kick ass german emo bands (possibly Fuckuismyname or Shokei or Kids Explode, I can't rember). Pretty orignial sounding, which means I can't really give any other similar artists other than the ones listed above. Enjoy (I know chu will!)

With Horses In Her Eyes - Prologue

Location - Georgia, US
Genre - Emo

Great release by a very epic emo band. I feel like epic is an abused word now-a-days but I mean in it's the most raw sense of the word (you will get it when you hear this). I reccemend this album for anyone into the french style of emo (Daitro, Amanda Woodward, Belle Epoque, etc.).

Defiance, Ohio - The Fear, The Fear, The Fear + The Great Depression

The Fear, The Fear, The Fear
The Great Depression

Defiance, Ohio is an Folk/Punk band from Columbus, Ohio.  According to Last.fm, Defiance, Ohio is my number one played artist of all time.  So of course I need to put them on my blog.  Listening to their albums can turn a bad day into a good one, and a good day into a great one.  I never thought the twang of a banjo and the punky sing/yelling would go so well together.  Add in some powerful drums, and that sexy, sexy violin and cello and you have the awesomeness that is Defiance, Ohio.

THIS ONE IS FOR YOU IAN <3

I Adapt / The Neon Hookers - I Roast My Marshmallows In Church Fires

Location - Iceland / NY
Genre - Melodic Hardcore

First off, sorry for the pic. It was honestly the biggest I could find; it was one out of two that I came accross because nobody listens to these two bands for some reason and thus no one posts the album art for this ace of a 7". I Adapt is an amazing melodic hardcore band hailing from iceland. I have had the pleasure of seeing them twice and they are all great guys. Familiar Ghosts is one of their best tracks. Another personal vinyl rip so again, I apologize for quality.

God Fodder - No Sleep 7"

Location - Missouri, US
Genre - Hardcore (80s style)

One of the best 7"s by a modern hardcore band. If my house were on fire this would be one of the records I would run in for. Great 80s feel to it. Personal vinyl rip, quality a lil' left to be desired but I did my best.

Sex Vid - Tania/Nests EPs

Location - Washington, US
Genre - Hardcore

Wonderful pissed off thrashy hardcore from the great white north that is Washington. Low production of Tania EP adds to the feel. Get into it. If these get a good response I have some mo' sex vids fo' ya'll.

The Thermals - The Body, The Blood, The Machine

Download

  indie/pop-punk/rock

Do you hate god and religion?  do you hate the government?  Because i'm pretty sure The Thermals do.  But they can tell you all about it...  Smart lyrics set to catchy tunes.  Can't go wrong with this.

Ampere / Sinaloa

Location - Massachusetts, US
Genre - Emo

This is my favorite record of all time. I picked this up the year it came out at a record store in Boston and from that day on driving with the windows down has never been the same. Seriously, on a nice day pop this into your CD player and just drive. Today happens to be quite a nice day here in TN and this is what I plan on doing. Both sides are amazing lyrically, try to get ahold of them you won't be disappointed. Ampere's side is so insanely mathy, I love it!!

La Quiete / Louise Cyphre

Location - Italy / Germany
Genre - Emo

One of the best splits to come of out the emo community ever (in my opinion, obviously). Both sides are ace, but I gravitate more toward Louise Cyphre's side myself. I saw them in Germany last summer at Cry Me A River Fest. I shared some drink/smokes with some Scottish kids and proceeded in going inside and seeing one of the best live performances of a life time. This is a must have for anyone into fast paced, aggressive emo.

Oatmeal - Dinosaur Eggs

Location - Michigan, US
Genre - Emo

Great lil' EP or demo (can't remember which) from this happy emo trio. If you like Snowing and/or Street Smart, chances are you'll enjoy this.

Heaven In Her Arms - Erosion of the Black Speckle

Location - Japan
Genre - Emo

Japanese emo masters Heaven In Her Arms wonderful early lp. As a lot of people before myself have said, this album is pretty epic. The vocalist's voice may take some getting used to if you can really tune into it, but you will grow to love it. Great album for fans of Daitro, Le Pre Ou Jes Suis Mort, (early) Envy.

GZA - Liquid Swords

Location - New York
Genre - Rap, Hip Hop

In celebration of GZA playing at my campus in a matter of 11 days I give you the Genius himself...The GZA!! This probably my second favorite album ever conceived; it is, for lack of a better word, genius. Get it.
